First appearance: Amazing Spider-man #425

This wonder of a costume happened when Peter Parker was getting harrassed by Electro on a nearly daily basis. Peter pretty much said enough is enough and he made a new costume and special webbing. He and X-Man battled Electro and when they defeated him Electro decided he would level NYC. Spidey stopped him and Electro killed himself. The costume was destroyed and has not been seen since.

First appearance: Peter Parker: Spider-Man #22 (V.2)

In the amazingly superb issue of PP:SM 22, Peter Parker was down in the dumps because he had a bad writer… and poorly written friends. After getting rippedon by Liz Osborn, Pete found the Goblin attacking people for no reason in a building. Peter donned a canvas-tarp type thing and tied a rope around his neck. He fought the Goblin for a few panels and it turned out that it was a cheap imitation of the Greenie. What a waste.

First Appearance: Peter Parker: Spider-Man (Vol. I) #90

Way back during the Identity Crisis deal, Spider-Man was getting hunted by any bounty hunter who wanted to bounty hunt. Three kids got sucked into the Negative Zone and Spidey had to go help them. While in the negative zone S.H.O.C. (remember him?) gave him an armband, which probably turned into this costume. Spidey battled evil in the Zone for a while, before…. well… I’ll tell you the rest next month in the upcoming dusk bio.

First appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #437

Don’t get me wrong, I love DeFalco’s writing. This story, however… was not exactly his best. It starts off with Spidey saving the mutie known as Synch. A short time later Plant-Man sends a plant to spray Synch with some thing that turns him into a hulking, mindless monster. Fighting ensues between Synch and Spidey. Plant-Man lures Spidey into his lair and mutates Spider-Man into Spider-Beast (dant Dant DAAAAHHH!). Spider-Beast fights some big wooden… things… and Synch is all of the sudden just as intelligent as he normally is (but still as ugly) and helps Spidey beat up the things. Spider-Beast catches Plant-Man and acts unusually violent towards him. Before you know it, Pete Parker is okay again and so is Synch (the filthy mutie) and they both live happily ever after.

First appearance: Spectacular Spider-Man #213

After a night of fighting thugs and punks, Pete’s costume got all torn up. He came home quickly to see if Mary Jane was there, but she wasn’t. He took one of her spandex shirts and tore it up to cover up some of his wounds. What kind of idiot tears up a super-models spandex shirt?!?! Anyhoo… he ends up fighting Typhoid Mary. The upside-down Spider was only in issue 213, so I think that it was an accident.

First appearance: Marvel Fanfare #1

Throughout his career as a super-hero, he has had countless strange adventures. But none were as bizarre as when the evil Brain-Child used an arcane device to de-evolve Spider-Man into a monsterous creature more spider than man. Peter might have been forever trapped as a terrifying monster if Karl Lykos hadn’t used his his energy siphoning powers to steal Spider-Man’s excess energy. The power draining process inadvertently changed Man-Spider back to Peter Parker, while transfoming Lykos into the villainous half-man, half-pterodactyl known as Sauron.

first Appeared in: The Spectacular Spider-Man #66

Spider-Man fights Electro every once in a while and three times (that I know of) he modified his costume in order to battle this villain. To prevent himself from being electrocuted, he made took a mattress and made it into an outfit similar to his standard. And no, that’s not a belly-button, that’s what you blow the air into on a normal matress. Our hero, of course, won the battle.

First Appearance: Secret Wars #8

While Spider-Man and a whole bunch of his super hero pals were stranded on a planet during the Secret Wars, his colorful spandex costume got sliced and diced. Spidey discovered this wonderous, high-tech costume making machine. The result: a super-duper shape shifting costume that responded to his thoughts! It had unlimited webbing, too.
Unfortunately it was discovered that the costume was in fact an alien symbiote that was trying to take over and permanently bond with him forever! Luckily, with the aid of Reed Richards, leader of the Fantastic Four, the costume was separated from him and contained in a special holding cell.
The menace of the alien costume was not yet over. The costume, after escaping from the Fantastic Four, once again came after Spider-Man. Disguising itself as Spidey’s old blue and red duds, Peter unknowingly put it on. In Web of Spider-Man #1, the ensuing battle for the control of Spider-Man’s body led to a conflict above the rooftops of Manhattan.
Spidey was trying to get the symbiote to the Fantastic Four Baxter building, while the alien was doing everything in it’s power to prevent this. Spidey lured the symbiote to a church and uses the peal of the bells to disrupt the alien.
Unfortunately, Spidey succumbs to the bells before the costume, but before he perished the symbiote saves Spider-man because of the relationship developed during their attachment. Spider-man’s rejection leaves the symbiote in a confusing love-hate relationship for the wall-crawler. The symbiote finds a new host, Eddie Brock, and returned to haunt him as Venom.

Costume of the Month: March 2001
Appeared in: Amazing Spider-Man #258

This little incident happened when Reed Richards an Johnny Storm removed the alien black-suit. What happened was, Reed told Spidey during Secret Wars (I) that he wanted to check upon the black suit, Spidey finally got the time, and they found out that it was a symbiote, and removed it with a sound cannon. Now Spidey didn’t have an extra suit with him to the Baxter building, so Torch found an old black and blue F4-suit, but it didn’t have a mask so he found a paper-bag. And as luck would have it, jumping home, someone got in trouble.

Appeared in: Amazing Spider-Man #100-102

Way back in the day, Spidey decided his life wasn’t good being Spider-Man. He drank and untested formula that was supposed to rid him of his powers. The potion ended up giving him four additional arms. For the next two issues he partied with Morbius and the Lizard. He finally lost his arms by using Morbius’ untested potion on himself. Kids, don’t try that at home.
